Seven Borealis

Heavy lift construction vessel Seven Borealis was built by Sembawang Shipyard, in Singapore. Hull fabrication was done at the Nantong Yahua Shipyard. The crane vessel, which is owned by Subsea 7, was delivered in early 2012.

Seven Borealis is designed to be used for a range of operations, including platform installation, deck installation, spar deck installation, mooring installation, subsea installation and platform removal.

Subsea 7 contacted Woodsons to provide a solution for streaming the output of 16 SKY decoders into the ship's Bazeport system whilst the ship was in Rotterdam (September 2012) undergoing preparations for work in West Africa. The SKY decoders were soon to be swapped for the DStv service during the ship's transit to West Africa.

Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) is a system through which television services are delivered using the internet protocol suite over a packet-switched CAT5 or CAT6 network, instead of being delivered through traditional coaxial cable television formats, thus eliminating cable losses.

IPTV securely distributes video content to televisions over a managed two-way network IP infrastructure that enables a more customized and interactive user experience. IPTV can enable interactive content, such as interactive advertisements and real-time network based PVR functionality, on a regular TV set.

IPTV uses a two-way path using a downstream multicast or unicast video signal sent through the provider’s backbone network over IP and from IP-based video servers, allowing viewers to select content on demand, time-shift, and take advantage of other trick and interactive TV options. At the access interface, IPTV is a unicast service; only one copy of a program is sent at a time on the access pipe connecting the user to the network.

When a viewer changes the channel or selects a program, a new stream of content is transmitted directly to the viewer’s set-top box. There may be a large number of streams of video being sent into the IP core network, but only one is switched into the user’s access network.

IPTV enables more interactivity and flexibility, but also introduces the requirement for more intelligence in the network. It should be noted that, in all IPTV delivery mechanisms, the intent is to deliver video to the user’s TV, not just to the user’s computer.

TV head-end: where live TV channels are encoded, encrypted and delivered in the form of IP multicast streams. In most cases the live TV channels are deilvered from either Freesat or Sky decoders via A/V or HDMI cables.

VOD platform: where on-demand video assets are stored and served when a user makes a request in the form of IP unicast stream.

Interactive portal: allows the user to navigate within the different IPTV services, such as the VOD catalog.

Delivery network: the packet switched network that carries IP packets.

User's set-top box: the piece of equipment at the user's home that decodes and decrypt TV and VOD content and displays it on the TV screen.

Multiple SKY Decoders

Multiple SKY decoders housed in space saving shelf solution

Woodsons has developed a solution to incorporate the streaming of multiple encrypted SKY channels across exisiting IPTV networks, such as Bazeport and Snap TV.

QuoteA word of thanks to Woodsons for a great year of hassle-free internet service. The feedback from my colleagues has been excellent and it is truly a service we could not contemplate being without at this stage. Keep up the good work! Quote
